More out of the way Apennines

My latest walk took me to a really out of the way area in the Apennines foothills. From Pietro Nera (RE)  I followed the footpath along the Rio Maillo  as far as Roncolo and then took the road to Maiola.

The most interesting part starts at Casa Rosso where a farmer who refused any farm mechanisation lived until 1991. This place is an hour by footpath from any road.

There are nice views on the stretch from Roncolo to Maiolo with the  Casa Torre of Monte Castellaro dominating from above.

A  good walk for a hot day as there is only one serious climb along the route.
