December

This month I have had little time to get out walking, with one thing and another getting in the way.

My first walk in December was a brief walk in the high Apennines from Passo Cerreto to Passo Ospedaletto. Nothing particularly interesting except for a nice sunset.

I managed to do a footpath that I have wanted to do for some time along a stretch of the Tassobio torrente from Ariolo RE to Mulino Leguignio RE on the 660 footpath.

Here the partly frozen torrent made for some interesting photographs.

My last walk of the year was quite near to home above Albinea RE . I left the car at Querciola and followed the farm tracks to Ca’ del Lupo ( The wolves house). I had a fantastic view of the Pianura Padana from here.

Above the Clouds

I wanted to see the autumn colours before winter sets into the Apennines. I decided to go to Lake Calamone below Mount Ventasso, RE. The weather when I left home was grey and misty. I was right with my planning. When I got to Ramiseto, RE I was out of the cloud cover and into a nice sunny autumn day.

With little wind the trees reflecting in the lake were spectacular.

I then climbed up above the lake towards Mount Ventasso , then at a certain point I took the footpath towards Pratizzano. Below me the fog filled Secchia Valley and Mount la Nuda in the distance, partly covered by bad weather coming in from Liguria.

The River Po at Suzzara

I returned to The River Po near Suzzara, Mantova, this time I walked to an area where the River Po divides into many islands. I then followed the zigzagging “argine” back the port. From this elevated position one can appreciate the vastness of the floodplain –“Golena”.

Afterwards I drove along the embankment above the Po towards Borgoforte, Mantova. I was confronted by this fantastic afterglow reflected in the river.
